The E36 was available as a coupe, sedan, convertible, touring and compact (hatchback). The E36 M3 was the first 3 series to be fitted with a six speed manual transmission.

The arms are unique to the M3 and help it achieve its 3.4” wider front track than the outgoing E36 M3. The control arm’s rear pivot point is commonly called the lollipop bushing.
The reason why BMW stopped to build more road versions of the BMW M3 E46 GTR is due to a change of rules for the 2002 ALMS Championship. BMW were meant to build 100 street legal BMW M3 E46 GTR and 1000 P60B40 V8 engines but they scrapped the street legal program because it was too expensive.
